In two weeks from tomorrow, drummer Jeff “Tain” Watts will bring his quartet to Pittsburgh for a performance at the Kelly-Strayhorn Theater in East Liberty. The show is being presented by Kente Arts Alliance, who have brought several other incredible performers to Pittsburgh over the last few years including Dr. Lonnie Smith, Billy Harper, Roy Ayers, and Pharoah Sanders among others.
Watts is a jazz drummer, born and raised in Pittsburgh, who has been active since the early 80’s. He’s played most notably with Wynton and Branford Marsalis‘ groups on several recordings, some of which won Grammys. He has also appeared in the Spike Lee film, Mo’ Better Blues and was a part of the Tonight Show Band for three years.
I’ve never seen Watts perform, so I’m excited for this one. For this show, his group will consist of David Budway on piano, Troy Roberts on saxophone, and Yunior Terry Cabrera on bass.
Tickets are still available and can be purchased HERE. Do yourself a favor and go to this!!! Here are a few videos of Tain in action…
