The lineup for the 2014 Jazz Live International Festival held annually in downtown Pittsburgh was announced earlier this week. The last 2 or 3 years have all had acts that I either went down to see (Soulive, Robert Glasper, Rudresh Mahanthappa) or wanted to see and wasn’t able to (Jeff Tain Watts, Pat Martino, Alison Miller, etc.). However, this year’s lineup is not really doing much for me. Unless additional announcements are going to be made (and I’m REALLY hoping that is the case), there’s really only one or two acts on the list that really interest me. One of those is The Messenger Legacy, which is a tribute to Pittsburgh’s own Art Blakey.
The lineup got me thinking about acts that they possibly COULD have booked that I would have been VERY into seeing. These are just a few that come to mind….
