Bill Frisell – guitar; Charlie Haden – bass; Ginger Baker -drums
I’d never heard of Ginger Baker‘s Trio before I found their CD, Going Back Home (1994), at the thrift store last week. Baker was the drummer in Cream and Blind Faith. He’s done a bunch of other stuff as well including recording with Fela Kuti. So, I was not surprised to see that he had his own jazz trio.
Going Back Home was worth a few listens. Nothing about it really blew me away, but it’s respectable. Baker comes across as a rock drummer who is playing jazz, in my opinion. That’s not an insult because the guy can definitely play jazz, it just had a low complexity, standard kind of feel to it. But again, it was a cool find for sure.
